Whale and Dolphin Conservation

For a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free

#SaveTheWhaleSaveTheWorld

Through campaigning, political persuasion, education, and research, we work to ensure that whales and dolphins can live in freedom and safely.

What drives Whale and Dolphin Conservation

WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, is the world’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the protection of whales and dolphins. Our vision is a world in which all whales and dolphins live in freedom and safety. We work globally and nationally, independently and scientifically, and advocate for whales and dolphins and the protection of their habitats—the oceans and rivers—through campaigns, research, fieldwork, conservation projects, and educational initiatives.

What Whale and Dolphin Conservation has going on

In Germany, our focus is on protecting porpoises from death in fishing nets—what is known as bycatch. We advocate at the political level for effective marine protected areas in the porpoises’ most important habitats. We also call for effective bycatch monitoring that reveals how many porpoises actually die in nets.

We are also committed to protecting whales and dolphins internationally. We aim to further expand our network and our efforts, particularly in Asia. We are currently in the midst of developing a new conservation project with local partners. Together, we aim to achieve better protection for whales in Japan. We will also intensify our investigative and educational work regarding the dolphinarium industry in Asia.
